Lorain County, Ohio
The Lorain County GradNation Community Summit will focus on developing concrete ways to improve graduation rates throughout the county. The program is going to be a part of the Lorain City Schools’ professional development day for their teachers. Teachers, administrators and community members from Elyria and Oberlin will also be included in the conversation.
The day will feature a kick-off by State Senator Gayle Manning. Attendees will be escorted to the auditorium by the Lorain JROTC and the JROTC will do a presentation of colors. Representatives from AT&T will also speak during the kick-off. The keynote address will be by the National BGCA Vice President Edward Link and he will address the BGCA role in helping increase graduation rates through our programs.
It is great to hear from the experts but one of our breakout sessions is to hear from local students. Ron Yantz, a local news celebrity, will be moderating a youth panel discussion around graduation rates and their personal experiences throughout high school.
The nationally recognized Jack Berckmeyer, who is known for his motivating, practical ideas communicating a message of hope, laughter, and insight into education will be doing our last 2 breakout sessions. Jack was also the Assistant Executive Director for the National Middle School Association for 13 years and is the author of Managing the Madness - A Practical Guide to Middle Grades Classrooms.
